We Dressed Up Like Pirates
Oh! What we will do for free food. Every year we dress up as cows to get free Chick-fil-a and this week we dressed up like pirates (just like last year) in order to get hot and ready doughnuts from Krispy Kreme.
On September 19th we celebrated “Talk Like a Pirate Day” by pulling out our costumes, and attempting “Arrr… matey” in our best pirate accents. We ate more doughnuts than is healthy when we pulled into Krispy Kreme around ten o’clock to meet several friends.
I was delightfully surprised when the cashier handed me two boxes of doughnuts. I thought we would each get one doughnut, but we left with two dozen FREE doughnuts. It felt like we found buried treasure!
I understand that there are many ways businesses can drive customers into stores, but it’s not every day that dressing up and talking like a pirate will get you two dozen free doughnuts. We didn’t even have to plunder the place like wild pirates, we just walked in smiled and before me knew it we handed delicious treats.
Krispy Kreme, founded in 1937 in Winston-Salem, N.C., began to celebrate this quirky holiday last year and it has brought many funny moments of joy.
While many people came in with eye patches, pirate hooks, and even peg legs, my favorite costume was a mom who dressed up like a pirate with her toddler sitting on her shoulders in an amazing parrot costume! I wish I had a picture it was such a creative set of costumes.
I love that Krispy Kreme has capitalized on this quirky holiday and think other businesses should consider promoting underrated holidays. National Punctuation Day and Sea Otter Appreciation week are still up for grabs.
